When the Investors in People standard is fully embedded, it greatly improves recruitment, retention and full engagement of talent that is the life-blood of a high performing organisation.
VIP – Value and Inspire your People – support organisations to prepare for and attain Investors in People (IIP) recognition. Furthermore, VIP work with leadership teams to fully embed the principles and best practice of the IIP standard, so that there is real ownership and commitment to IIP best practice.
At every level, the key benefits are attraction, retention, increased motivation and engagement of the workforce, leading to a positive and productive atmosphere delivering increased performance.
Peter is an experienced Investors in People facilitator and has led IiP implementation programmes with Volvo, West Midlands Police and The Royal Life Saving Society. Working in partnership with your leadership and management teams, we can evaluate your current HR/personnel, learning and development, and supervisory activities with IiP best practice and use the VIP staff survey to evaluate how things currently stand and provide a baseline indicating where current practices are serving the organisation well and where improvements can be made.
Preparation for IiP assessment and subsequent attainment, followed by ongoing activity to fully embed IiP best practice is most effectively achieved from a combination of top down and bottom up activity. Large organisations may also benefit from running a ‘hearts and minds’ internal communications programme that visually details the best practice already in place and where improvements are being made, in order to make the organisation an even better place to work.
Attracting and retaining talented staff is set to become increasingly challenging due to the following factors:
The recently published Investors in People Report: Job Exodus Trends cites poor management and not feeling valued among the top three reasons currently prompting employees to actively seek an alternative job. This is coupled with the fact that many surveys and findings indicate that a significant proportion of the workforce is reported as not being fully engaged.
The following extracts from recent articles illustrate this current trend:
Just One in 10 Brits Feel Engaged at Work
Only a tenth (11 per cent) of UK employees feels fully engaged at work, according to new research from Gallup, while a fifth (21 per cent) are actively disengaged.

Dismal Employee Engagement Is a Sign of Global Mismanagement
According to a recent State of the Global Workplace report, 85% of employees are not engaged or are actively disengaged at work. The economic consequences of this global 'norm' are approximately $7 trillion in lost productivity. 18% are actively disengaged in their work and workplace, while 67% are 'not engaged'. This latter group makes up the majority of the workforce - they are not your worst performers, but they are indifferent to your organization. They give you their time, but not their best effort nor their best ideas. They likely come to work wanting to make a difference, but nobody has ever asked them to use their strengths to make the organisation better.
